Description
Berlin Hopper Head – with Emergency Overflow, Copper, Zinc and RAL Powder Coating
Protec manufactures the Berlin hopper head (conductor head, rainwater collector) with an integrated emergency overflow – a classical European drainage component combining architectural heritage with functional drainage safety. Available in a full range of materials including copper, titanium-zinc, zinc alloys, hot-dip galvanized steel, and powder coating in any RAL colour on request. The Berlin is a well-established design in European architectural metalwork, suited to prestige urban buildings, townhouses, civic buildings, churches, and heritage restoration projects. Produced to order as a direct European manufacturer, with OEM and custom order available.
Emergency Overflow – Safety Built In:
The integrated emergency overflow in the Berlin hopper head activates automatically when the primary downspout capacity is exceeded during heavy rainfall or if the downpipe becomes partially blocked – safely directing excess water away from the facade before it can overflow the gutter or back up into the roof drainage layer. On flat roof sections and parapet walls, an emergency overflow is recommended as standard practice. The Berlin model provides this safety feature as standard, with no additional components required.
Design – Classical European Architecture:
The Berlin conductor head is one of the most recognised hopper head designs in European architectural metalwork. Its classical form integrates naturally with the prestige urban facade styles of Central European cities – Wilhelminian townhouses, Gründerzeit apartment buildings, civic and municipal buildings, churches, and heritage-listed properties. In copper or titanium-zinc, the Berlin hopper head develops a natural patina over time that further enhances the authenticity of the architectural detail.
Available Materials and Finishes – Full Range:
- Copper – premium longevity and unique aesthetics – develops a natural green patina over time, ideal for heritage buildings, listed properties, and prestige residential
- Titanium-zinc natural – classic sheet metal material with self-regenerating patina and exceptional weather resistance
- Zinc Slate – dark, muted grey for modern and contemporary facades
- Zinc Quartz – light, warm grey suited to bright stone or render facades
- Zinc Graphite – deep dark grey for minimalist and industrial architectural styles
- Anthra Zinc (anthracite) – intense dark colour popular in contemporary prestige construction
- Hot-dip galvanized steel – durable and cost-effective standard finish
- Powder coating in any RAL colour – on custom order, for precise colour matching with the gutter system, facade cladding, or window and door profiles
Applications:
- Heritage and listed townhouses – authentic restoration of original Berlin-style drainage detailing in copper or zinc
- Wilhelminian and Gründerzeit apartment buildings – the most historically appropriate hopper head design for Central European urban architecture
- Civic and municipal buildings – prestige public buildings where facade quality reflects institutional character
- Churches and ecclesiastical buildings – copper Berlin hopper heads for religious architecture with demanding aesthetic requirements
