Faceted Gutter Outlet

Description

Faceted gutter outlet for half-round gutter – polygonal body form

The faceted gutter outlet is a drop outlet for half-round gutters with a distinctive multi-angled, polygonal body – as opposed to the smooth conical form of a standard round outlet. The flat-faced panels of the faceted body catch light differently and give the fitting a more architectural presence, making it the preferred choice wherever the outlet is visible from ground level and the design of individual components matters.

Like its round counterpart, this outlet connects a horizontal half-round gutter to a round vertical downspout – the difference is purely formal. Manufactured by Protec Sp. z o.o. (Chroscice, Poland – ISO 9001:2015) in copper and titanium-zinc, available with downspout spigots from FI 76 to FI 120 mm.

Round vs faceted gutter outlet – which form to choose?

Both forms perform identically in terms of hydraulic function – the choice is architectural. The round outlet has a smooth conical body that blends discreetly into the gutter base and is largely invisible from below. The faceted outlet has flat angular panels that catch light and create a more defined silhouette – closer in character to the multi-faceted forms found in traditional central European roofing hardware, where every visible component was treated as a detail worth finishing properly.

For projects where the outlet will be seen – open eaves, visible fascia, close street frontage, or conservation work requiring period-appropriate detailing – the faceted form is the more considered choice. For concealed or utilitarian installations, the round form is equally effective and simpler in profile.

Applications

The faceted gutter outlet is specified for projects where visual detail at the gutter-to-downspout transition matters:

  • Conservation and listed building work requiring period-appropriate copper or zinc hardware
  • Churches, public buildings, manor houses, and civic architecture with visible rainwater systems
  • High-specification residential projects where copper or zinc guttering is a design feature
  • Architects and heritage consultants specifying traditional central European rainwater detailing
  • OEM supply to gutter system manufacturers requiring a decorative outlet option

FAQ – faceted gutter outlet

What is a faceted gutter outlet and how does it differ from a round one?
A faceted gutter outlet has a polygonal, multi-angled body rather than a smooth conical form. Both fittings serve the same hydraulic function – connecting a half-round gutter to a round downspout. The faceted body creates a more architectural silhouette with flat panels that reflect light, making it the preferred choice for visible installations and heritage-sensitive projects.

Is there an English term for the multi-angled gutter outlet form?
No single standard term exists in English. The fitting is variously described as a faceted outlet, polygonal outlet, or angular gutter outlet. In German it is known as a mehrkantiger Rinnenstutzen or mehrkantiger Auslauf – the “mehrkant” (multi-edge) referring to the flat-panelled body form. Protec manufactures both the round (Rinnenerweiterung) and faceted versions.

Does the faceted outlet fit the same gutters as the round outlet?
Yes. Both the round and faceted outlets are produced for half-round gutters to DIN EN 612 and share the same spigot diameter range (FI 76-120 mm). The only difference is the visual form of the body above the spigot.

Is copper the right material for a listed building restoration?
Copper is the standard specification for listed and conservation buildings across Europe. It is fully solderable, has a documented service life of 80-100+ years, develops a natural patina that blends with historic materials, and is compatible with traditional installation methods. Protec supplies copper outlets for both new installation and like-for-like replacement of existing copper rainwater hardware.

Can I order the faceted outlet in a custom spigot diameter?
Yes. Protec offers custom tooling and OEM manufacturing for non-standard spigot diameters and body dimensions. Contact our sales team with your requirements for a quotation.
