Description
A square leader head is the connecting element between the gutter and the downspout, ensuring fast and unobstructed rainwater drainage. Protec manufactures square leader heads (conductor heads) across a wide outlet range – DN 60, 76, 80, 87, 100, 120 and 150 mm – suitable for virtually any gutter system. Compared to a standard gutter cone, a square leader head provides better downspout fill and higher flow rates. For external gutters, it can be dimensioned as an internal gutter. When gutter slope exceeds 2%, use of a leader head is required by building standards.
Square Leader Head – Available Downspout Outlet Sizes:
| Downspout outlet (round) | DN 60 / DN 76 / DN 80 / DN 87 / DN 100 / DN 120 / DN 150 mm |
|---|---|
| Form | Square |
The wide outlet range makes this square conductor head suitable for standard residential installations and large roofs requiring downspouts up to DN 150 mm.
Plain or Ornate – Two Design Variants:
With Embossed Star Decoration:
A classic architectural sheet metal detail – an embossed star pressed into the front face of the leader head. Ideal for traditional facades, historic townhouses, churches, listed buildings, and heritage restoration projects where both aesthetics and performance matter. Available in copper and titanium-zinc for authentic period metalwork.
Plain – Without Decoration:
A clean, undecorated form – ideal for modern and minimalist buildings. The plain square leader head integrates seamlessly into contemporary gutter systems and facade designs with simple geometry, particularly in Anthra Zinc, Zinc Graphite, or Zinc Slate.
Materials – 7 Variants for Any Roof or Gutter System:
The square leader head is available in a full range of materials for complete visual and technical compatibility with any existing roofing or gutter system:
- Copper – premium durability and unique aesthetics – develops a characteristic green patina over time
- Titanium-zinc (natural) – classic sheet metal material with exceptional weather resistance and self-regenerating patina
- Zinc Slate – dark, muted tone ideal for modern roofs
- Zinc Quartz – light, warm grey suited to bright facades
- Zinc Graphite – deep dark grey for industrial and minimalist designs
- Anthra Zinc – intense dark anthracite colour popular in contemporary construction
- Hot-dip galvanized steel – cost-effective solution with good corrosion resistance

Applications – When to Use a Square Leader Head:
High Rainwater Volume:
The square leader head is installed at the gutter outlet – particularly at roof valleys and corners where large volumes of water collect. The available outlet range up to DN 150 mm handles even very large roof areas effectively.
Gutter Slope Over 2%:
Building standards require a leader head when gutter slope exceeds 2%. The square leader head meets this requirement and enables correct dimensioning of the complete roof drainage system.
Classic and Heritage Architecture:
The square form is the traditional choice for classical architecture – townhouses, churches, manor houses, and listed buildings. The ornate embossed star variant reinforces the historic character of the facade and provides an authentic sheet metal detail for heritage restoration projects.
Modern Construction:
The plain variant in Anthra Zinc, Zinc Graphite, or Zinc Slate suits contemporary residential and commercial buildings where colour consistency between the gutter system and facade is essential.
