What is a pipe shoe and what is it used for?

A pipe shoe is a structural support component that sits between a pipe and a steel beam or support structure. It distributes the pipe load onto the beam and can be designed as a rigid fixed point or a sliding support that allows thermal expansion. Pipe shoes are widely used in industrial piping systems, process plants, power stations, and large HVAC installations where pipework runs along steel structures.

What is the difference between pipe fixing and a pipe shoe?

Pipe fixing components (clamps, saddle guides, brackets) hold a pipe in position relative to a wall, ceiling, or structure - typically preventing movement in all directions. Pipe shoes support a pipe from below on a steel beam, allowing controlled movement in the longitudinal axis (sliding shoes) or locking the pipe in a fixed position (rigid shoes). Pipe shoes are used for heavier pipe runs and structural support; pipe fixing brackets are used for wall and ceiling mounting of smaller diameter pipes and conduit.
